An 8 Tuff Miles Update 01/17/09

Early this morning a hand full of volunteers and 38 runners gathered on the steps of Mongoose Junction in the drizzle and rain. Once registered and given the command to start we were celebrating the First Geiger Tuff Tune Up of 2009. This training run takes on the first three miles of 8 Tuff Miles and helps introduce new comers to this daunting but challenging course. All made their way up the hill and to the flats of the country with good run times and were rewarded with cold water and Gatorade. There was an IPOD holder for each person who crossed the finish line thanks to the West Indies Company and Gatorade. Many turned around and ran back down to town after a short break and that’s how we started the next six weeks of 8 Tuff Miles.

The next Tune Up run will be on Jan.31st and start where we finished today and end at Château Bordeaux Restaurant. (The dreaded middle section.) Next Saturday the 24th we will be out in force putting litter in its place, in a bag! Please join us if you can.

Just a little news regarding sponsorship for the Big Day and that would include First Bank is back this year to sponsor the Starting Line. New Balance will sponsor the Highest Point for the first time ever and we welcome them to 8 Tuff Miles. Mongoose Junction will once again offer a $1,000.00 shopping spree for one lucky person who registers and complete the course on the morning of February 28th. This very lucky person will find out who he or she is at the 4:00 PM award ceremony on race day. Interested? Step one, register for 8 Tuff Miles. Step two, complete the course, step three, be at the award ceremony and hopefully collect your prize. Step four, go shopping!

For those who are stateside or beyond I hope your training is going well. If any of you ever have a question please email me and I will be happy to find you an answer for you.

Happy training,
See you all soon,

Peter
